Windy Mowing Artist Residency
Halifax, Vermont

2011 resident artist Paul Vo (York College class of 2013)

Artists or art students working in any medium or genre are invited to submit a proposal to live and create for a period of time at Windy Mowing, a historic mountain-top residence (built 1785) and studio in Halifax, Vermont. I am offering an opportunity for artists to rejuvenate their creative process by engaging directly with nature and having the freedom and solitude to work quietly and intensely. A comfortable private bedroom and bath will be provided, as well as a large kitchen to prepare their own meals. Indoor studio space is also provided as needed.

Halifax is a hardscrabble mountain hamlet in Southeastern Vermont abutting the Western Massachusetts border. It is largely forested, with rolling convulsive mountains and streams, and miles of walking trails. There are 18th-century cemeteries and stone remnants of tanneries and grist mills. It is an easy 30 minute drive west from I-91 exit 26/Greenfield, MA. It is also in close proximity to Brattleboro, VT and Shelburne Falls, MA, both of which have lively and engaging communities.

My role is to make sure your basic living needs are provided so that you can take advantage of this rare opportunity to build artistic momentum and make a strong connection to your work over a ten-day period. Though you’ll largely be left to your own devices, but I would be happy to offer feedback and guidance if requested.

— 2 References emailed from Teachers, Mentors or people otherwise engaged with your work

No smoking or drug-use on premises, no pets. Artist is responsible for purchasing their own art materials and food, and for their own transportation (vehicle necessary).
